Focus Verse: 14 - "In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish."
Reflection: Today, I think about many Christian leaders who think of themselves as great figures who are essential to the work of God in the world. They resist taking themselves out of ministry when their hearts are compromised because they think that God's work will fail without them. This shallow utilitarian calculation also persuades those around them to become enablers when these leaders become abusive.
Today's passage reminds us that God demands integrity of leaders, and cares more about addressing those hurt by the church, then preserving the momentum of a ministry. As we consider how the church should respond to the sins of Christian leaders, let us always put advocacy for the victims ahead of preserving the platform for the leaders.
Prayer: God, may leaders be humble, and may those who feel used or victimized know that you care. Please purify your church and keep us from taking away from the beauty of Christ's work. In his name we pray.
