Jan 1, 1 John 1: 1-10 by LeAnn

Summary: In this passage, John re-introduces us to the truth about God and the importance of building a relationship with Jesus Christ, through confessing our sins.

Focus Verse: 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

Reflection: "What is God saying to you through this verse?"

With the current pandemic & endless political chaos, it seems like there is no hope in life. People are afraid of each other's physical presence, and also expect the worst of each other's political views. We fixate on the germs and wrong ideas that are in others, and it is easy to blame others during this difficult time. However, if we take the time to confess to God and admit our wrongdoing, we can push back the darkness and live as people of the light. This verse reminds me that when people give me their negativity, to not let it shake me and not “snap back” without showing love. Instead, as I confess, I can pray for others to do so as well, so that we call can see God’s light brightening our lives.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for always being a loving Father and being my light. You always give me so much in life, whenever I give so little. Please help me to be patience and pass wisdom onto others that may not know you, so that they, too, can see your light and step out of darkness. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
